Library storytime

The Tamaqua Public Library's Spring Storytime sessions will begin on March 17 and March 18.Each Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m., children between the ages of 2 and 5 are welcome to join in the fun, where they will be read fiction and nonfiction books, learn songs, design special crafts and enjoy snacks.Registration is required for this free program. Call 570-668-4660 for more information.Storytime will be held for 10 consecutive weeks, ending in May.The library is also in need of construction paper, glue sticks, Elmer's glue, pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes, large popsicle sticks, rubber bands, plain white card stock, colored tissue paper, craft foam sheets, felt and a 10-foot lightweight aluminum ladder.Anyone willing to donate may call or stop in.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens meeting scheduled for this Thursday has been canceled. The group will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Tamaqua YMCA, weather permitting.Artist receptionThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will host a photo exhibit by former Tamaqua resident R. Thomas Berner. A meet-and-greet session will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. March 20.Berner's current exhibit is titled "60 Years Later."The art center is located at 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.Financial aidThe Tamaqua Area High School Guidance Department will sponsor an informational financial aid night on Monday. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the district auditorium.The 2015-2016 financial aid form will be reviewed and general financial aid questions will be answered by a representative of the PHEAA. Junior and senior class students planning to further their education, as well as their parents, are welcome to attend.Information on local scholarships will also be available. No preregistration or fee is required.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, Christian Ed will conduct its orange presentation at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., "Seek God for the City" begins; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will feature guest speaker Radu "Rudy" Gherghel, who fled Communist Romania and later relocated to Orwigsburg with his family. Sunday school classes are at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.Ash Wednesday services will be held at 7:15 p.m., Feb. 18, at Christ Church on Route 443, McKeansburg.The next family game night will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.
