Monroe man facing several charges

A Monroe County man is facing several charges following an incident that occurred at 2:39 p.m. Tuesday.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said they received a 911 call for the 100 block of Flame Drive in Blakeslee, that James Akers, 23, of 3001 Pleasant View Drive, Kunkletown, had forced his way into the home of his ex-girlfriend. Akers then made threats that he was armed with a gun and that he had shot the woman's two dogs. Akers made additional threats that he was going to overdose on heroin.Police arrived on scene and surrounded the residence and attempted to make contact with Akers. These attempts were unsuccessful.Officers then made entry into the home and found Akers on the floor and unresponsive. Evidence of narcotics use was found next to Akers. Akers was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and then transported to Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.After treatment, Akers was taken to the county prison in Snydersville, where he was arraigned on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
