Auction will benefit kids

This year's Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association Sportsman's Auction to benefit youth is Sunday, Feb. 15, during the Great American Outdoor Sports Show at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex, Harrisburg.

Through its previous 30 auctions, POWA has raised nearly $400,000 for this special fund that is used exclusively to sponsor programs by organizations that introduce young people to the outdoors across the state. Thousands of young sportsmen have benefited from monies raised, through youth field days, conservation camps, fishing derbies, shooting events, school nature activities, Boy Scouts, Audubon programs and many more. In addition, these funds have funded scholarships at Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for journalism majors with an interest in communicating the outdoors. All items sold at the auction are donations from show exhibitors, POWA, members of the outdoors industry and others interested in youth in the outdoors. Firearms, wildlife art, hunting and fishing gear, clothing, game calls, archery equipment, books, videos, and much more will be sold with no reserve. For more information, or to donate an item for the auction, contact Kermit Henning at
