Parole, probation hearings held in Carbon court

Carbon County judges held hearings recently on petitions filed by the county's adult probation department against defendants for allegedly violating the terms of their parole/probation.

Hearings were held for the following:Nikki Rehrig, 54, of Lehighton, had a petition filed by probation officer Jillian McGinley in two cases, both involving charges of retail theft as felonies, for violating conditions by being arrested in November 2014 by Mahoning Township police for another retail theft.She had her probation/parole revoked and was resentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve three to six months in the county prison effective Feb. 2 at 9 a.m.Eric Zuber, 33, of Lansford, had his probation revoked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia on petition of probation officer Clifford Eckhart for violating conditions by being charged with a new criminal offense, testing positive for a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.Judge Joseph J. Matika resentenced him to serve six to 12 months in the county prison with credit for 14 days already served, and granted him work release privileges.Joshua Romanishan, 36, of Lehighton, had his probation revoked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia on petition of McGinley for violating conditions by testing positive for controlled substances.Matika resentenced him to serve 90 days to 12 months in the county prison, effective Dec. 17, 2014.John Collotty, 35, of Lehighton, had his parole revoked on a driving under the influence charge on petition of McGinley for violating conditions by not living at his approved residence and his whereabouts were unknown; failed to submit to scheduled urine screen, which violated the zero-tolerance provision; and failed to get an initial drug evaluation.Matika resentenced him to serve three months of back time in the county prison effective Oct. 10, 2014.Sarah Yusella, 26, of Lansford, had her probation revoked on a charge of receiving stolen property on petition of Eckhart for violating conditions by repeatedly testing positive for a controlled substance.Judge Steven R. Serfass resentenced her to serve 90 days to 18 months in the county prison with credit for 54 days already served.Tonya Napolitano, 31, of Nesquehoning, had her probation revoked on a charge of receiving stolen property on petition of Eckhart for violating conditions by repeatedly testing positive for control substances, failing to submit to scheduled urine screens, and failing to engage in drug and alcohol treatment.Nanovic resentenced her to serve 90 days to 18 months in the county prison with credit for 65 days already served.Dietrik Hosier, 24, of Weissport, had his probation revoked on a charge of receiving stolen property on petition of McGinley for violating conditions by failing to complete 50 hours of community service.Matika resentenced him to serve one to three months in the county prison with credit for 43 days already served.Jordan Hughes, 27, of Lansford, had his parole revoked on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance on petition of Eckhart for violating conditions by testing positive for a controlled substance, which violated the zero-tolerance provision.Matika resentenced him to serve 120 days in the county prison with credit for 54 days already served.Michael Bocina, 24, of Jim Thorpe, had his probation revoked on a charge of simple assault on petition of probation officer Joseph Bettine for violating conditions by failing to complete 25 hours of community service.Matika resentenced him to serve three to six months in the county prison effective May 1. However, if he completes the community service by that, date the order will be vacated.Joshua Gundry, 26, of Weatherly, had his parole revoked on a charge of theft on petition of Bettine for violating conditions not listed.Matika resentenced him to serve 115 days street time in the county prison, effective Oct. 1, 2014.Christy Hartman, 26, of Lehighton, had her parole revoked on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia on petition of McGinley for violating conditions by failing to maintain contact with McGinley, and failing to submit to monthly urine screens.Nanovic resentenced her to serve out the balance of her original sentence, which runs to May 6.Jonathan Puppo, 25, of Lansford, had his probation revoked on a charge of sale or transfer of a firearm on petition of Bettine for violating conditions by not making a concerted effort to pay court costs.Nanovic resentenced him to serve six to 12 months in the county prison, which was effective Nov. 3, 2014.John Shamro, 35, of Long Pond, had his parole revoked on a DUI charge on petition of Bettine for violating conditions by not making a concerted effort to pay court costs, failing to obtain an initial drug evaluation, failure to complete alcohol highway safety program, failing to obtain a comprehensive alcohol assessment and follow recommendations, and failing to complete 25 hours of community service.Serfass resentenced him to serve three months back time effective June 15, at 9 a.m. However, if he completes all the violations noted by that date the order will be vacated.Ronald Ventura, 28, of Albrightsville, had his parole revoked on a charge of criminal trespass on petition of Bettine for violating conditions by testing positive for cocaine, failing to submit to a scheduled urine screen, both violating the zero-tolerance provision.Serfass resentenced him to serve six to 12 months in the county prison, effective Oct. 10, 2014, and must max out his sentence, which runs to Oct. 10, 2015. He can only be paroled before that date if he secures admission to an inpatient drug and alcohol facility.Steven Mika, 29, of Weissport, had his probation revoked on a charge of defiant trespass on petition of McGinley for violating conditions by failing to report to the probation office as directed and testing positive for opiates, which violated the zero-tolerance provision.Matika resentenced him to serve three to six months in the county prison effective Jan. 15.ARD revokedThe following defendants had their placement in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program for violating conditions.The following were revoked:Beth Snyder, 55, of Jim Thorpe, on charges of retail theft and resisting arrest.Evan Darling, 24, of Albrightsville, on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. However, if he pays his court costs in full, completes drug and alcohol treatment, and completes 50 hours of community service by May 1, the order will be vacated.Leo Fochtman, 26, of Lehighton, on a charge of DUI.Ayla Hoffman, 24, of Nesquehoning, on a charge of DUI.Dale Fink, 27, of Jim Thorpe, on a charge of retail theft.Snyder, Fochtman, Hoffman and Fink had their cases placed on the next trial list. Darling's is on hold until May 1.
