Defendants enter pleas

The following defendants entered pleas in Carbon County Court last week:

Carl Lloyd Miller, 61, of Palmerton, pleaded to two counts of DUI in two pending cases.He was arrested for the first count along Third Street in Palmerton, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.24 BAC.The second arrest occurred along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton. His level was 0.08 BAC.Serfass told Miller he faces a mandatory minimum of one year in jail on the charges.Sentencing was deferred so Miller could get a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.John Michael Soltis, 50, of Lansford pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on June 13, 2014 along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police after being involved in a crash. Given a test, the result was 0.18 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Soltis could obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.Clayton Berger Jr., 27, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI.He was arrested on Jan. 18, 2014, by Lehighton police who found him slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle with the motor running. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Berger could get an initial D&A evaluation.Amber Colleen Defiore, 21, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of accidents involving damage, a summary offense.She was arrested after being involved in a crash along Mauch Chunk Road, on May 4, 2014. Her vehicle left the road and collided into a Palmerton Telephone Company pole snapping it off at the base. She then left the scene.Serfass imposed a fine of $300 and ordered her to make restitution for damages to the pole of $3,922.Joseph Kosalko Jr., 35, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct, as a summary offense.He was arrested on Aug. 13, 2013, following incidents in the area of 325 W. White St., by Summit Hill police.Kosalko told Serfass he has had mental health issues and is currently getting counseling.Serfass placed him on probation for 90 days and ordered he continue the counseling and render 15 hours of community service.Aaron Jason Scott, 24, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of criminal trespass, as a felony three.He was arrested by Lehighton police for entering 625 Cypress St. on April 29, 2014, without permission.Scott is currently serving a three to 12 month prison term in Lehigh County for a probation/parole violation.Serfass placed him on probation for 36 months, consecutive to the Lehigh term, and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, supply a DNA sample, zero tolerance for D&A use, pay restitution for damages to the home of $520.98, and when released on parole render 150 hours of community service.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee.
