3 crashes in 12 hours on Route 309

Following the grinding crash Saturday at noon that injured eleven people on Route 309 near Hometown, two additional collisions took place on the same road and in the same general area.

The second incident took place about 3 p.m. on Claremont Avenue, Route 309, atop the Mile Hill near Lofty Road in Kline Township while crews were still working on the crash scene near the bottom of the hill, which falls within Rush Township.According to reports, a tractor trailer tried to avoid the traffic backup by turning around, at which time an SUV collided with the truck. Damage was extensive to both vehicles and the driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.About 10:30 p.m., another driver was taken to the hospital after a third collision on Route 309 at the Mile Hill near the intersection of Main Street, with police suspecting alcohol as a factor.All three crashes are under investigation.
