The late David L. Walls honored by Nesquehoning

Today is David L. Walls day in Nesquehoning.

On Wednesday evening, Nesquehoning Borough Council adopted the day in honor of Walls, an active borough volunteer firefighter who passed away Nov. 2, 2014.Walls was one of three deceased volunteer firefighters honored for their dedication to their community.David Hawk, president of borough council, presented Walls' son, David M. Walls, with a resolution honoring his father.Walls was a life member of the Hauto Fire Department and was the former assistant fire chief of the departmentHe was an Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War, and remained active in veterans' activities after the war. He was a life member of the Nesquehoning American Legion and a veteran member of the Nesquehoning VFW."The members of the Nesquehoning Borough Council recognize, and in so doing, honor and express deep sorrow at the passing of David L. Walls, being fully aware of the tremendous loss suffered by his family and the borough of Nesquehoning as a whole," Hawk read."(We) express our gratitude and appreciation of his life and career, of the value of his example, of his fine character, of his exemplary life and of his untiring zeal for the welfare of his family, this board and his neighbors and community and that we honor his memory by working to reach the shining example he left for us all."Walls, who was the husband of the late Maryann Walls, who passed away in 2003, is survived by his son David and wife Diane; a daughter, Mary Weirich; a brother, Curtis Walls and his wife, Marianne; three grandchildren, Paul and Christopher Weirich and Patrice Hunsicker; and five great-grandchildren, Haley, Gage, Makenzie, Jaylinn and Christopher.
