Financial aid

The Tamaqua Area High School Guidance Department will sponsor an informational financial aid night on Feb. 16. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the district auditorium.The 2015-2016 financial aid form will be reviewed and general financial aid questions will be answered by a representative of the PHEAA. Junior and senior class students planning to further their education, as well as their parents, are welcome to attend.Information on local scholarships will also be available. No preregistration or fee is required.Snow rulesTamaqua residents are reminded of borough rules concerning snow removal.Property owners are required to maintain a clear path, at least 3 feet wide, on sidewalks. Snow and ice must be removed from these pathways within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm.Snow, ice and other materials may not be thrown into the streets. Fines of $25 and up may be imposed on anyone caught throwing snow or ice into the street, or who fails to maintain a snow-free pathway.People who plow snow from in front of homes and businesses must remove any piles of snow they create. Anyone piling snow in the street or parking areas could be cited.Residents are asked to refrain from piling snow near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains and are encouraged to clear snow from these areas.Further information is available by calling 570-668-3444 or 570-668-0300.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes are at 9:15 a.m.Also this Sunday is Souper Bowl Sunday, when canned goods will be collected for local food banks. This Sunday's service will include the celebration of Holy Communion. Sunday school will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; birthday bash-cupcake wars will be at noon; bell choir rehearsal will be at 6 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadets and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group at 5 p.m.; Thursday, cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice at 7:30 p.m.The Feb. 8 service will include the celebration of Boy Scout Sunday.St. John LutheranThe Rev.
