Lady Bombers get revenge over Falcons

Palmerton head coach Rodney Strohl looks at senior Jade Farquhar sometimes as another coach out on the floor.

Farquhar took control early and helped keep the Lady Bombers focused for a 47-40 victory over Salisbury in a key Colonial League contest for both teams, who look for a shot at the overall league title when playoffs get underway in just over a week. The Bombers, who have compiled a 17-2 overall record and 12-2 in the league were anxious to get revenge from the loss the Falcons handed them in their first meeting.Farquhar, who was 11-for-19 from the floor on the night, had a game-high 30 points and opened the contest guarding Salisbury's 6-3 center Meagan Eripret."It was exciting," Farquhar said afterwards. "We came in focused. We came into the gym right after school and got some shooting drills in. We knew the shots we wanted to take. We knew where they are going to defend us from the first time around."We were glad to get a second shot at them because we learn really well from past performances."Eripret, who had 26 the first time the two teams met, had nine of her 22 points in the second quarter to help keep the Falcons close.Farquhar kept Eripret in check early, but after she committed her second foul, Madison Mummey took over and the Bomber defense didn't miss a beat.Palmerton jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter thanks to 12 points by Farquhar and led 16-10 after th first eight minutes.Salisbury cut it to one twice in the second quarter, but four by Farquhar and four by Abby Reimer kept the Bombers in front 25-21 at intermission. The Falcons pulled within 32-30 as the fourth quarter began, but Farquhar addd nine more and the Falcons found themselves down by double digits and lost by seven."The girls played great defense tonight," Strohl said afterwards. "Jade and Maddy played great defense on Eripret. She got her points, but she had to earn them. We were giving them the outside shot, but were close enough to defend them. We had a nice scheme there and the girls executed it well."Jade hit a couple three's against their zone and that opened it up a bit for us in there. I told her at the beginning that the game was in her hands and she had to make things happen for us and she did."This game's win is only as good as the next three games left. We have to keep focused.Lennaea Leister finished with eight and Reimer seven for the Bombers. Backing up Eripret was Kelly Gonoude with eight. Both teams are league playoff bound and could meet again. The two are also in Class AA in districts, who maybe they'll meet two more times.Stay tuned.SALISBURYKeet 2-0-0-6.
