Guilty pleas entered in 6 DUI cases

Six defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Monday.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas.Two countsDillion Nicole Koch, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts of DUI in two pending cases.She was arrested on Nov. 9, 2013, along Route 209 by Franklin Township police. The second arrest occurred on Nov. 22, 2013, along North Third Street by Lehighton police. In both cases blood tests revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Koch is currently an inmate in the county prison unable to post bail of $2,000, 10 percent on one of the counts. Because of a recent state Supreme Court ruling concerning all DUI cases, Koch could not be sentenced because she has not gotten a drug and alcohol evaluation.Nanovic agreed to reduce her bail to $2,000 unsecured so she would be released from prison and get the required evaluation. She then will be brought back before the court for sentencing.Barry David Moreia, 67, of Lehighton, was arrested on Aug. 31, 2014, along Bank Street in Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.21 BAC.Nanovic sentenced him to serve five days to six months in prison, a fine of $500, and one-year license suspension. He will serve the prison term on consecutive weekends beginning Feb. 6 at 9 a.m., two days, and Feb. 12, at 9 a.m., three days.Victor R. Samuel, 51, of Hazle Township, Luzerne County, was arrested on Aug. 30, 2014, along Mauch Chunk Street by Mahoning Township police. A test showed 0.12 BAC.A first offense, Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300.David Allen Anthony, 26, of Lehighton, was arrested on Oct. 11, 2012, along Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred because Anthony requires a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.Robert Harrison Bunch, 30, of Palmerton, was arrested on Aug. 1, 2014, along Route 209 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred because Bunch requires a comprehensive D&A evaluation.Joshua Joel Damore, 40, of Boyertown, Berks County, was arrested on Feb. 6, 2013, along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Damore could obtain a D&A evaluation.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,500, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
