Charges for teen in cell robbery

One of six suspects in an armed robbery Saturday in Nesquehoning was arrested Tuesday, according to Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith.

Elijah M. Frey, 18, of East Railroad Street, Nesquehoning, faces three counts of robbery, two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, two counts of simple assault, and one count each of criminal solicitation to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit retail theft, and conspiracy to receive stolen property.Two girls, ages 12 and 13, told police six people, three of them armed, approached them in the 300 block of East Center Street around 7:45 p.m. and demanded the girls give them their phones.The three armed men, who were wearing bandanas over their faces, pushed their handguns into the females' ribs, took one phone and fled the scene.Two of the other suspects stayed behind while the girls begged them to get the phone back.Patrolman Robert Blisard caught up with the two men, Frey and Tyquan Owens, a few blocks away, but both denied involvement in the robbery.The girls told police they recognized Frey, who also goes by the name "Big E."In an interview with police on Sunday, Owens said he lied about not being involved.He said he was walking behind Frey and four other friends when they walked over to the girls and took the phone, valued at $499.Owens said he didn't know the names of the other four males.Frey was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and bail was set at $150,000.A preliminary hearing was set for 2 p.m. Jan. 28 before Magisterial District Judge Casimir Kosciolek.
