Man faces charges over stolen sandwich

A Tamaqua man faces charges of retail theft after he reportedly helped himself to a pre-made hoagie at the Fegley Mini Mart, 30-32 Center St., Tamaqua.

Police were called to the store at 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday after a clerk saw Albert M. Shaw, 31, of 33 Mauch Chunk St., Tamaqua, place a hoagie in his pocket, then leave without making payment. Shaw did, however, pay for a pack of cigarettes at the time and ignored the clerk's questions about the hoagie. When questioned by police, Shaw said he took the hoagie because he was hungry and only had enough money for the cigarettes, which he was purchasing for a friend.
