An icy road was blamed for a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 12:24 p.m. Monday in Port Carbon borough, Schuylkill County.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Thomas R. Whalen, 68, of Port Carbon, was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck northbound on Fifth Street, near Walnut Street, when his vehicle began to slide due to icy conditions.The truck slid into the guide rail, then went over an embankment and struck a utility pole. Whalen was not injured but the Ranger sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.
