Six injured in Schuylkill crash

Six people were injured on Monday in a one-vehicle crash caused by road conditions, according to state police at Schuylkill Haven.

Troopers said Deandra C. Cirello, 21, of Larksville, Luzerne County, was driving a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan westbound on Route 25, in Hegins Township, and traveling down a hill through a left curve.She lost control due to slippery conditions with the van traveling from the right lane onto the shoulder where it struck a utility pole head-on.Cirello and passengers Jessica L. Favata, 21, of Wyoming, Andrew M. Chverha, 27, of Plymouth, and Chelsea L. Smith 22, of Shickshinny, all sustained minor injuries, while passengers Joy L. Taylor, 37, of Hanover Township, and Kristina M. Pennington, 23, of Berwick, each sustained moderate injuries.All were transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, Pottsville.Police also reported a one-vehicle crash occurred about 5:25 a.m. on Monday along Valley Road, also in Hegins Township.Troopers said Austin A. Brewer, 18, of Hegins, was driving a 2004 Mazda RX-8 eastbound in the right lane when he came upon a downed tree on the road. He was unable to avoid the tree and struck it.Brewer was not injured but the car had to be towed from the scene.
