Scholarship program available for Tamaqua grads

The J.E. Morgan Center, Tamaqua, a branch of LCCC, offers Tamaqua Area High School graduates a chance to attend college on a scholarship program. Courses offered there include accounting, business management, business administration, human services, nursing, liberal arts and general studies.

Through a program which began in 2003, students who attend Tamaqua Area High School for four years and graduate can attend LCCC in Tamaqua. The program is a branch of the Morgan Foundation, which honors the philanthropic life of J.E. Morgan, the industrialist who died in 2001 at the age of 89.In the late 1950s, Morgan invented the waffle stitch, which was used to manufacture long underwear and blankets. Morgan sold his knitting mills in 1984."Many students have benefited from the program," said Holly Yacynych, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for LCCC. "Through the scholarships, there have been more than 850 Tamaqua High School students enrolled."
