Carbon man jailed for making threats

A Carbon County man was jailed after he allegedly threatened his neighbor.

Nesquehoning police said Norman J. Borger, 62, of 121 W. High St., Apt. 3, has been charged with terroristic threats and simple assault.According to police, at 9:25 p.m. Jan. 5 officer Carl Breiner was dispatched to the 100 block of West High Street for a report of a male threatening to kill a female. On scene, the officer spoke with a woman who said her neighbor across the hall, Borger, had threatened her.She told the officer that Borger came to her door unprovoked and began trying to open the door and banging on the door demanding to be let inside. She said she looked through the peephole and saw Borger was holding a long object in his hand, but she could not tell what it was. She said he again threatened to kill her.Breiner could not find Borger on scene after knocking on his apartment door and identifying himself. He left the scene but instructed the female to call him if she saw Borger. A minute later Breiner was called back to the apartment. This time he found Borger in a hallway. Upon confronting Borger, Breiner found the suspect to have in his possession a large fixed-blade-type Bowie knife concealed under his coat.Borger admitted going into the hallway because he thought someone opened his door without his permission but denied threatening the female or possessing the knife when he checked the hallway. Borger said he had the knife for his own protection. On Jan. 9 Chief Sean Smith and officer Timothy Wuttke arrested Borger at his residence on a warrant. He was then arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford and committed to the county prison after failing to post $25,000 straight cash bail.
