Car, garbage truck in Luzerne crash

A car and a garbage truck were involved in a collision on Tuesday on a snow-covered road. State police at Hazleton said the crash occurred at the intersection of routes 309 and 424 in Hazle Township, Luzerne County.

Troopers said David L. Sokolofski, 24, of Hazleton, lost control of his 2003 Saturn Ion 3 on a snow-covered 309 and slid into the path of a 2013 International Harvester garbage truck driven by Peter Lengyel, 54, of Tamaqua. The truck struck the car in the right rear area.Troopers said the Saturn sustained a flat tire and sheet metal damage. The truck had damages to the hub on the steering axle and had to be repaired before being driven from the scene. No one was injured.Sokolofski was cited for the crash.
