Palmerton fire company wants to add heaters to garage bay

Palmerton wants to improve the heating capacity inside its municipal fire company building.

The borough will accept bids until 11 a.m. Jan. 22 for the installation of three natural gas fired heaters for the Palmerton Municipal Fire Company.Borough Council meets at 7 p.m. that day, at which time a bid award could be made. The heaters will be installed in the garage bay area of the building, borough Manager Rodger Danielson said."There are times when the firemen come in from activity and they need some good warmth," he said. "The garage really isn't made to be a real warm place; it maintains a certain temperature, and we want to be able to give them some heat."Danielson said he anticipates the project will cost anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000.Project costs would be covered by the borough's general fund, he said.In June, the borough held a dedication ceremony and open house in honor of its new $1.2 million, three-bay fire station at Fifth Street and Lehigh Avenue.
