Trailers on official's property at issue in East Penn
East Penn Township's solicitor and zoning officer will meet to go over reports related to Municipal Road property owned by Jacob Nothstein, the board of supervisors' vice chairman.
The decision came after Jason Rapa, who owns land adjacent to Nothstein, asked Monday night whether trailers parked within the supervisor's property violate the township zoning ordinance."I filed an open records request and I got conflicting reports from zoning officer Richard Dietrich," Rapa said. "One time I get a report back saying there are no violations and another time it says trailers need to be parked 10 feet from the property line. There is a trailer parked right on the property line. I'd just like an answer and some type of resolution."At a previous meeting, the Nothsteins said that the trailers on their property are used in conjunction with their working farm, are several feet off the property line and will eventually be parked against a loading dock they need to use.Solicitor James Nanovic said he would go over the zoning reports with Dietrich and return to the supervisors with what could or should be done."It just seems to me that they are storage trailers when he wants them to be storage trailers and vehicles when he wants them to be vehicles," Rapa said. "If they are for farm usage than they have to be registered as such. If they are not, then they can be considered junk under the ordinance. I'm asking for the ordinance to be enforced."Supervisor Chairman Dean Kercsmar said the board has always been open and tries to do what is right, but he takes exception when things become personal."Not once did I see the Nothsteins make things personal," Kercsmar said.He was referring to a sign Rapa placed toward the Nothstein property that read, "enjoy the view."Rapa said that was in response to a trail camera Nothstein had installed and pointed toward his property.Nancy Blaha, who also lives on Municipal Road, attended the meeting and spoke directly to Nothstein."Jake, I think some of what is on your property is just overkill, she said. "Neighbors worry they won't be able to sell their property. This is likely going to be a lengthy process, and I just ask that we all try to be respectful to one another as we go through this."
