(bout minimum: 5)106 - 1. Kevan Gentile, Jim Thorpe, Jr. (10-0); 2. Seth Fronheiser, Northern Lehigh, Fr. (12-5); 3. Matt Peters, Northwestern, Fr. (12-4).Honorable Mention - Brandon Mader, Tamaqua, Fr. (12-6); Nate Kemmerer, Lehighton, Fr. (7-7); James Gehr, Pleasant Valley, Fr. (6-5);Notes - Gentile has picked up right where he left off after earning a trip to the Class AA Southeast Regional tournament, where he ultimately finished sixth. The junior went 5-0 to capture the title at 106 pounds during Jim Thorpe's Christmas Tournament in late December. Proving his dominance, Gentile has ended four of his matches with a pin in under a minute. Behind Gentile are five very talented freshmen that have all shown the ability to compete at a high level during the early part of the season. After falling to Kemmerer at the Bullet Invitational in early December, Fronheiser bounced back to pick up a 3-2 decision over his counterpart during Northern Lehigh's dual against Lehighton a week later. Peters went 2-1 at the season-opening Nazareth Invitational, losing to the Blue Eagles' Trevor Tarsi in the final. The freshman followed that with a 1-2 finish in the Bethlehem Holiday Classic. This deep and talented group should see some separation in the coming weeks with more tournaments and league matches potentially putting some on the mat together at the same time.113 - 1. Baily Wehr, Northwestern, So. (13-3); 2. Colton Rex, Northern Lehigh, Jr. (11-3); 3. Gary Goodhile, Panther Valley, So. (8-5).Honorable Mention - John Newhall, Jim Thorpe, Fr. (3-3); Mike Lazar, Panther Valley, Sr. (4-2).Notes - Wehr has done well to regain his form quickly this season. Wehr advanced to the final of the Nazareth Invitational before falling to the Blue Eagles' Ryan O'Grady in the first-place bout. Wehr went 1-2 in the Bethlehem Holiday Classic in late December, winning his second round match against Wyoming Valley West's Wayne Smith before falling to Warwick's Devon Schnupp in the quarters and Wyoming Seminary's Jack Davis in the consolation round. Rex took second at the Bullet Invitational and went 1-2 at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic. Goodhile just finished a strong showing at Panther Valley's Anthracite Duals, going 4-1 and losing only to Williams Valley's William Girard, who entered the tournament with a 14-2 record.120 - 1. Quentin Bernhard, Northwestern, Jr. (14-2); 2. Zachary Kemmerer, Lehighton, Jr. (11-4); 3. Tanner Kennedy, Panther Valley, Fr. (16-6).Honorable Mention - Ezra Neff, Northern Lehigh, So. (9-7).Notes - A Class AA Southeast Regional qualifier last season, Bernhard has turned that momentum into quite a bit of success so far this year. The junior went 3-0 at the Nazareth Invitational, defeating the Blue Eagles' Tyson Klump, a state qualifier last season, by a 2-0 decision in the final. Bernhard advanced to the quarters of the Bethlehem Holiday Classic where he suffered a 9-7 loss to Freedom's Dylan Brown in overtime. Bernhard bounced back in the consolation rounds, fighting back to defeat Nazareth's Garrett Snyder in his sixth match of the tournament to take fifth place. Kemmerer started the season with a bang, winning the title at 126-pounds at the Bullet Invitational. The junior went 2-2 at the Bethlehem Classic, and finished 4-1 at this past Saturday's Anthracite Duals. Kennedy has looked good for the Panthers, finishing seventh at the Penn Manor Tournament earlier this season.126 - 1. Tanner McHugh, Tamaqua, So. (18-2); 2. Jarret White, Northwestern, Jr. (13-3); 3. Jason Jacobi, Pleasant Valley, Jr. (13-2).Honorable Mention - Darren Goida, Panther Valley, Jr. (11-3).Notes - This group has wrestled extremely well so far, making it even more difficult to pinpoint where each should be in the rankings. McHugh went 5-0 at the Hamburg Duals over the weekend, and 5-0 at the Berwick Duals in late December. The sophomore was also impressive in Bloomsburg's DKI Tournament earlier this year, advancing to the final before dropping a 3-1 decision to Troy's Dalton Revels. White took seventh at the Bethlehem Classic, while Jacobi helped Pleasant Valley finish third in Blue Mountain's Gauntlet Tournament held earlier this year by winning all five of his matches. Goida was stellar in the Penn Manor Tournament, defeating Governor Mifflin's Zach Sheetz in the final to win the title at 132 pounds.132 - 1. Matt Schmall, Northern Lehigh, Jr. (13-3); 2. Hunter Kennedy, Panther Valley, Fr. (12-9); 3. Cody Scherer, Lehighton, Fr. (5-5).Honorable Mention - Dalton Webster, Northwestern, So. (4-3).Notes - Schmall, who finished fifth in last year's district tournament, won the title at 132-pounds at the Bullet Invitational and took seventh at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic. Schmall also defeated Scherer by technical fall in the Bulldogs' dual against the Indians. Another impressive freshman, Kennedy took eighth at the Penn Manor Tournament and should give the Panthers plenty to build on this season and in years to come.138 - 1. Tegan Durishin, Lehighton, Jr. (14-5); 2. Caleb Clymer, Northwestern, Fr. (13-10); 3. Zachary Glassic, Panther Valley, Sr. (9-6).Notes - Durishin (defeated Clymer twice at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic, with the second victory being a 5-3 overtime decision in the seventh place match. Durishin went 4-1 at the Anthracite Duals this past Saturday. Glassic has been steady for the Panthers and should continue to contribute on a regular basis.145 - 1. Dylan Rynkiewicz, Tamaqua, Sr. (19-1); 2. Ryan Farber, Northern Lehigh, So. (13-3); 3. Ali Capobianco, Panther Valley, Jr. (15-6).Honorable Mention - Dylan Schock, Lehighton, So. (7-2); Nathan Eckhart, Palmerton, Sr. (3-2); Andrew Ringler, Palmerton, So. (7-4).Notes - Rynkiewicz, who recently got his 100th win, went 5-0 at the Hamburg Duals over the weekend. The senior also went 5-0 at the Berwick Duals earlier in the season and looks primed to improve on last year's spot in the Southeast Regional Tournament. Rynkiewicz's only loss came in the final of the Bloomsburg DKI Tournament, a 9-4 decision setback against Bloomsburg's Cody Klinger. Farber went 2-2 at the Bullet Invitational and defeated both Ringler and Schock in Northern Lehigh's dual matches against Palmerton and Lehighton. Capobianco, a former district qualifier, went 5-0 at the Anthracite Duals and took eighth at the Penn Manor Tournament.152 - 1. Conrad Young, Northern Lehigh, Jr. (14-3); 2. Mathew Wolfe, Palmerton, Sr. (9-4); 3. Trevor Dorn, Pleasant Valley, So. (8-4).Honorable Mention - Xander Kern, Panther Valley, Fr. (6-4); Hunter Davidyock, Panther Valley, Sr. (6-6).Notes - Young went 3-1 at the Bullet Invitational and took fifth at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic. Wolfe went 3-2 at the Anthracite Duals over the weekend. Dorn has done well for the Bears this season and should continue to improve as the season goes on.160 - 1. Tyler Cann, Lehighton, Jr. (12-5); 2. Zack Christman, Palmerton, Sr. (7-6); 3. Garrett Gouger, Pleasant Valley, Jr. (8-7).Honorable Mention - Antonio Madera, Jim Thorpe, Jr. (5-5); Malik Roper, Tamaqua, Sr. (5-2).Notes - Cann has been a constant force for the Indians, going 4-1 at Saturday's Anthracite Duals. The junior also took second at the Bullet Invitational. Christman, coming off an injury, was sixth at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic and appears to be rounding into form after qualifying for regionals last year. Gouger has been a staple for the Bears over the last two seasons and that should continue this season.170 - 1. Zachary Graver, Palmerton, Sr. (13-3); 2. Brody Keefe, Pleasant Valley, Jr. (13-2); 3. Nate Farber, Northern Lehigh, Sr. (9-4).Honorable Mention - Robbie Geisinger, Jim Thorpe, Jr. (7-3).Notes - Graver, a state qualifier two years ago, took fifth at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic and went 5-0 at the Anthracite Duals Saturday. Keefe (29-14) took seventh in Bethlehem and looks primed to build on his success from last season, which included a spot in the Class AAA Northeast Regional Tournament. Farber was 26-9 a year ago and should make this group interesting, depending on how much movement there is between weight classes.182 - 1. Connor Frey, Lehighton, Jr. (12-2); 2. Dylan Moyer, Panther Valley, Jr. (12-6); 3. Jarred Mooney, Palmerton, So. (12-6).Notes - Frey took fifth at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic and went 5-0 at the Anthracite Duals. After qualifying for states last season, look for Frey to have another big year this time around. Mooney was equally impressive in Bethlehem, taking eighth. The sophomore also went 5-0 at the Anthracite Duals. Moyer (has been a linchpin in Panther Valley coach Tim Robb's lineup, and his value has been on display throughout this season, both in tournaments and dual matches.195 - 1. (8-8).Notes - Thomas went 1-2 at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic and has not competed since. Thomas did earn a 7-3 decision win over Russo in the tournament. Scheib went 2-2 at the Bullet Invitational and should give the Bulldogs even greater depth at the upper-weights.220 - 1. Rian Shubeck, Panther Valley, Sr. (4-1); 2. Wyatt Clements, Lehighton, Jr. (7-6); 3. Tre Nelson, Palmerton, Sr. (5-4).Honorable Mention - Nicholas Ammirato, Pleasant Valley, Sr. (4-4).Notes - Shubeck, a state qualifier last season, has been dealing with a variety of injuries this season that have limited his ability to contribute. Clements and Nelson, both newcomers at the varsity level, have shown tremendous growth in a short period of time and should continue to make progress as the season goes on.285 - 1. Cameron Kates, Northern Lehigh, Jr. (13-3); 2. Jacob Murray, Northwestern, Jr. (10-5); 3. Alexander Smith, Lehighton, Jr. (7-6).Honorable Mention - Ahmad Curtis, Pleasant Valley, Sr. (3-3); Will Focht, Pleasant Valley, Jr. (4-3).Notes - Kates took seventh at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic. Focht defeated Murray by fall in mid-December, but has not competed since a match against Pocono Mountain East days later. Smith has proved to be an asset for the Indians at the upper-weights, giving the team a solid option in its dual matches. Curtis (, a regional qualifier last season, missed time earlier this year but has been slowly working his way back after competing again over the last week.(compiled by Patrick Matsinko)
