West Penn Township supervisors reorganized Monday, keeping Jim Akins as chairman and James Dean as vice chairman. Ted Bogash, the third member of the board, will continue as roadmaster.
The supervisors also adopted an ordinance regarding the size of accessory structures in the township. According to the former ordinance, an "accessory structure" such as a garage or shed couldn't be larger than 50 percent of the size of the home. The supervisors had been discussing changes to the ordinance since August. According to the new ordinance, the accessory structure must conform to setbacks, which are 10 feet on the side yards and rear, and 20 feet in the front. The roof height may not be higher than 40 feet. The supervisors also recognized Robert Beck for his many years of service to the township as a member and also chairman of the planning commission, roles he has held for more than 16 years. Beck has decided to resign, and alternate Dave Frederick will fill the position on the board. The township will be seeking candidates to serve as alternate.
