Troopers investigate crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

Troopers said a two-vehicle crash occurred at 6:08 p.m. on Dec. 30 at the intersection of Route 209 and Spruce Hollow Road in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Greg R. Nielsen, 25, of Matawan, New Jersey, was driving a Mazda 3 northbound on Spruce Hollow Road and approaching 209 while Rae A. Larkins, 24, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 2003 Saturn L2 northbound on 209.Nielson failed to stop for a posted stop sign and entered the intersection. Larkins was unable to avoid a collision and the two vehicles collided in the northbound lane of 209.Larkins sustained a minor laceration to her hand and was treated at the scene by Lehighton ambulance personnel. Neither Nielson nor his passengers, Lauren Bierilo, 19, and Megan M. Larson, 19, both of Matawan, were injured. The Saturn was towed from the scene.Troopers cited Nielsen for a stop sign violation.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 10:59 a.m. on Friday along Greenhill Road in Polk Township, Monroe County, in which the driver is facing a driving under the influence charge.Troopers said Kimberly L. Sawicz, 39, of Kunkletown, was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound and failed to negotiate a right curve. The Jeep went onto the berm and the front end hit a tree.Sawicz sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel. Troopers said Sawicz showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. She was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed. The Jeep had to be towed.Another one-vehicle crash occurred at 7:38 p.m. on Saturday along Route 534 in Polk Township. Troopers said James D. Gobs, 41, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus southbound and negotiating a left curve when he lost control. The Ford went onto the berm and struck a utility pole.Gobs was injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance. The Ford had to be towed.Troopers cited Gobs for driving at an unsafe speed.
