Charges of driving under the influence of alcohol are pending against a Tamaqua woman following a one-vehicle crash at 4:05 a.m. Thursday on Old Route 209 in Schuylkill Township.
State police at the Frackville barracks said Cristal Rosa Russell, 37, was driving a Toyota Tacoma east on the road when she swerved to avoid a deer crossing the highway. Police said she lost control of the Tacoma, which exited the north shoulder of the road and struck a Bell Telephone utility pole, splitting the pole. Police said the vehicle came to rest in a wooded area along the north berm of the roadway.Police said upon speaking to the operator, they detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. She was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, where she submitted to a chemical blood test, the results of which are pending.
