The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for January, including a review of New Year's resolutions.Other activities for the month include: Wednesday, sing-along with Audrey Christ; Jan. 9, painting class; Jan. 12, snowman can craft class; Jan. 16, Eskimo craft class; Jan. 21, Salvation Army visit; Jan. 23, National Pie Baking Day; Jan. 30, scrapbooking session.In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, becoming a member of the board of directors, or services provided may call 570-668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.Financial aidThe Tamaqua Area High School Guidance Department will sponsor an informational financial aid night on Jan. 6. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the district auditorium.The 2015-2016 financial aid form will be reviewed and general financial aid questions will be answered by a representative of the PHEAA. Junior and senior class students planning to further their education, as well as their parents, are welcome to attend.Information on local scholarships will also be available.No preregistration or fee is required.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school class will meet at 10:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 10:30 a.m.Activities for next week: Monday, worship and music committee meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are at 9:15 a.m.Also this Sunday, the cantata "The First Noel" will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m.An hour of praise and prayer is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school begins at the end of the junior sermon.A time of fellowship will be held following the worship service on Sunday.
