Man took camera to trade for drugs

A Lansford man is facing charges after he told police he stole a video camera to trade for drugs.

On Saturday morning, Mahoning Township Police were dispatched to Walmart for a retail theft. The man involved in the theft fled the store in a Hyundai.The vehicle was spotted by Lehighton Police on Route 443 at Ninth Street.When officers attempted to stop the vehicle it passed multiple vehicles on the right hand side and then crossed the roadway entering a private driveway.The driver Ronald Eidem Jr. of Lansford was then placed under arrest, and identified as the male involved in the theft. Eidem admitted stealing a video camera from the store to trade for drugs.At the time of his arrest officers found a book bag containing syringes; a digital scale; 185 clear plastic bags; pseudoephedrine pills; and white powder that tested positive for methamphetamine.Additional items seized from the bag were consistent with items required to manufacture methamphetamine in a mobile lab. These items were taken for testing by the State Police Clandestine Lab Team.Eidem has been charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension. Additional charges relating to the production of methamphetamine are pending lab test results.Eidem was placed in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.
