A Parryville man was cited by Coaldale Police after he was caught helping another man steal items from an apartment building at 127 E. Phillip St.
Arthur Gotthard, landlord of the apartment building, called police on Oct. 22 to report unwanted people on his property. Gotthard told officers the apartment was rented to a Taryn Depos. He suspected that Daniel Fink, 31, of Parryville was at the apartment, baby-sitting a child, and the electricity had been shut off.Gotthard and an officer went to the apartment, where they found Fink and the child. They also found numerous items the landlord said had been stored in the basement area and which did not belong to Fink or Depos.Fink admitted the items were stolen, saying they had been brought in to the apartment by John Leroy Smith, 25, of Tamaqua. It wasn't the first time Smith had taken items from the basement, according to Fink.The stolen items in the apartment included a cabinet, a candy machine, various tools and plumbing supplies.Fink was charged with receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking. Smith was charged with receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking and criminal trespass.
