No 2015 tax hike for Rush Township

During a meeting Thursday, Rush Township adopted a balanced budget with no tax increase, keeping the millage at 5.62.

Revenues are projected at $945,794, with expenditures at $910,286.The supervisors also adopted a disturbing the peace ordinance.According to the ordinance, actions or behaviors that compromise the safety of people or property within Rush Township are prohibited.Any person who violates the ordinance can be brought before a magistrate and fined up to $500.In other action the supervisors:• Donated the old police radios to the fire police.• Decided to hold their reorganizational meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 5.• Accepted the resignation of Kevin Leitzel as the Zoning Hearing Board alternate. The board is seeking another Rush Township resident to serve on the board.• Police Sgt. Duane Frederick warned residents about the increase in attempted scams over the holidays.• Resident Charles Shamonsky, Meadow Avenue, complained about newly erected signs that prohibit parking on Meadow Avenue during snow emergencies. He said 11 signs within two blocks were too many signs.• Resident Joe Shamonsky complained that township officials had not responded quickly enough to his report of a downed wire. Members of the road crew said they had responded and seen that the downed wire was a cable wire. Service Electric responded and rehung the wire.• Hometown Fire Company Chief Barry Messerschmidt thanked the supervisors for their support of the fire company.
