Aztec Two-Step to perform holiday show at opera house

Aztec Two-Step shows are mini-holidays, one-night vacations from the grind and the gristle.

Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman unwrap gifts they've been creating together for over 40 years. Fluid, flashy acoustic guitars. Branching, brotherly vocals. Topical, timeless songs about life's serpentine highways. Sly, spry celebrations of the bond between veteran performers and well-seasoned listeners. This holiday vibe will be spiked on Saturday at the Mauch Chunk Opera House when Aztec Two-Step performs Two-Step classics, songs by the Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel, and Christmas favorites.Formed in 1971, Rex Fowler and Neal Schulman recorded their debut, and a few months later the duo's self-titled major-label debut was released in 1972 to critical acclaim.Joined by John Sebastian, among others, the album spawned the early-'70s radio hit "The Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarty (On the Road)."Since then, they've performed together for over 40 years. In 1986, the duo recorded "Living in America," which won a 1987 New York Music Award for Best Folk Album. PBS aired a documentary in 2000 about them called "No-Hit Wonders." A mix of James Taylor and Simon & Garfunkel, they bring gorgeous harmonies and guitars and beautiful, poetic songs.Tickets are $25 and available at
