Palmerton Area Library's winter month activities

Winter is the perfect time to visit the Palmerton Area Library.

Activities for children include:• Preschool Story Hour is held every Friday at 10:30 a.m. during the school year. It is free and open to the public.• Paws of Hope Kids read to dogs the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to noon. It is free but parents must preregister for a time slot by calling the library at 610-826-3424.• Homework Helpers for grades one through eight, Mondays and Wednesdays, 3-4:15 p.m. Volunteer tutors will help children with homework and other assignments. It is free but parents must register each child.• Teen Advisory Group for teens in grades five through 12. Check out the new bulletin board beside the elevator for details about meeting days and events. During the school year meetings are the first and third Thursdays of the month. Call the library and ask for Tessa for details.Activities for all ages are:• Watercolor painting classes offered for children on Tuesdays and for adults on Saturday and Wednesdays. pzpzpz444@gmail.com.• Knitting Club meets the first and third Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. It is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting of all skill levels.• Third Monday Book Club meets the third Monday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. and discusses a different book each month. New members are always welcome. the book for January is "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson.• Yoga classes are offered every Saturday at 9 a.m. Call the teacher at 570-436-1762 for more information or stop in on Saturday mornings.• The library board of directors meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.• Friends of the Palmerton Area Library meet four times a year. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Jan. 13. Everyone is welcome.• The Sew What Quilt Guild meets at the library on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. New members and visitors are always welcome. Please use the side door.The Palmerton Area Library basement used book and movie sale is open during regular library hours. New books arrive on a weekly basis as well as movies, puzzles and CDs.Volunteers are always needed to sort and place books on shelves.Check the library website for free downloadable magazines from Zinio.New online databases are coming soon: Ancestry; Brainfuse (a testing site); Morning Call Archives.
