Crash on I-80 in Carbon

State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a two-vehicle crash along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County, involving two Schuylkill County drivers. It was one of two crashes reported by troopers.

Troopers said Ashley A. Matina, 24, of Pottsville, was eastbound driving a 2008 Ford Focus at 9:02 p.m. on Dec. 12 when she lost control due to icy road conditions. The Ford spun in a clockwise direction and struck a 2001 Jeep Cherokee head-on, driven by Stephen A. Behun, 41, of Tamaqua.After impact the Jeep spun around in a clockwise direction and came to rest on the right shoulder as did the Ford.Matina, Behun and his two passengers, William Behun, 7, and Stephen Behun, 8, were all not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.Troopers cited Matina for the crash.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4 p.m. Sunday along Merwinsburg Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Nina A. Gillen, 33, of Effort, was driving a 1997 Subaru Outback northbound when the vehicle left the road on the right side and brushed the guide rail with the passenger side.Gillen then made an evasive maneuver when she turned her vehicle to the left, causing it to cross the road and strike a concrete bridge rail on the left shoulder with the front end. At this point the Outback rolled over onto its roof and came to rest on the road blocking both lanes of travel.Gillen was injured and taken by West End ambulance to Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. Damages were disabling to the Outback.Troopers cited Gillen for the crash.
