Santa arrives in Summit Hill and has brunch with children

Santa had to change his plans for his visit to Summit Hill on Sunday.

He originally was supposed to arrive at Ginder Field by helicopter.His ride was a medical helicopter, and minutes before the scheduled arrival, it was dispatched on an emergency run.To the rescue came the Diligence Fire Company of Summit Hill.A crowd gathered at the field at the scheduled noon arrival time were advised by a member of the Recreation Commission that the plans had to be changed.A firetruck went to the Jake Arner Memorial Airport in Lehighton, where Santa was awaiting the helicopter, and transported him to the approximately 75 youngsters who were waiting for him in the hilltop community.Santa's visit was part of the annual "Christmas on the Hill" event sponsored by the Summit Hill Recreation Commission.Jodi McAndrew, chairman of the commission, said the program held by the commission included a free brunch with Santa in the Hill Top Community Center.Santa, played by Matt Kusko of Lansford, also posed for photos with the children.
