A state trooper was injured when his patrol cruiser was struck while he was investigating a crash. State police at Hazleton said the crash occurred at 12:29 a.m. Thursday along Interstate 80 in Black Creek Township, Luzerne County.
Troopers Daniel Spath and Mark Baron were investigating a one-vehicle crash at the above location. Both troopers were out of their 2013 Ford Interceptor cruiser.Dana A. Wing, 58, of Industry, Maine, driving a 2013 Freightliner tractor with trailer, was eastbound and slowed for traffic ahead of him. As he slowed down the trailer jackknifed and struck the rear of the police cruiser.The cruiser was pushed into the rear of a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville, which was operated by Iris S. Mack, 35, of Clearfield, which was disabled due to a prior crash.The Bonneville then struck Spath, who was standing on the east side of the vehicle. Spath was struck in the legs and thrown over the guide rail. He suffered injuries to both his legs and hands.He was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, where he was treated and released.Mack sustained a minor injury and was seated in the vehicle when it was struck.
