WILKES-BARRE Two women were sentenced in Luzerne County court this week for cheating an insurance company when they provided false information about a car crash on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Judge Tina Polachek Gartley sentenced Jennifer C. Apollon, 31, of Edwardsville, and Lisa G. Moore, 49, of Scranton, to 18 months in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Program, a special probation program for first-time non-violent offenders.Apollon was sentenced on two counts of criminal conspiracy and a single count of insurance fraud. Moore was sentenced on charges of filing a false report to an insurance carrier, filing a false insurance claim, intent to defraud an insurance carrier, criminal conspiracy and insurance fraud. They were also ordered to perform 30 hours of community service.The two women were charged in April after the Northeastern Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Task Force investigated a claim Moore had filed with Infinity Select Insurance about car crash on the turnpike in December 2013.According to the criminal complaints, Moore insured a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero with Infinity Insurance in February 2013. Moore was registered as the owner of the Oldsmobile.The Oldsmobile was involved in a four-vehicle crash on the turnpike in Penn Forest Township on Dec. 24. The state police report listed Apollon as the driver with three passengers, including two boys.Four days after the crash, Moore filed a claim with Infinity saying she was the sole occupant of the car that slid on ice and struck a barrier. Moore indicated to the insurance company no other cars were involved and state police had not been called.An Infinity claims representative learned four cars were involved in the crash and state police investigated. The claims representative also learned Apollon was the driver of the Oldsmobile.Investigators learned Moore was insuring the vehicle under her name because Apollon driver's license was suspended for multiple violations.
