9 placed in Carbon probation program

Nine people were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program for first-time offenders on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail complete the program, or are revoked from it, they will face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Abel K. Adams, 37, and Sharon R. Helmer, 34, both of Jim Thorpe, were both placed on charges of criminal conspiracy-possession of a controlled substance. Both were arrested on July 1 by Nesquehoning police for an incident in the area of 92 Rhume St.Each were assessed $650 for the cost of the program and ordered to get drug and alcohol evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, and render 50 hours of community service.Sutia Claudia Alston, 32, of Lansford, was placed on a charge of possession of marijuana. She was arrested on July 6 by Beaver Meadows police following a traffic stop along Broad Street.She was assessed $450 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Brian Allen Brossman, 21, of Lansford, was placed on a charge of false report to falsely incriminate another. He was arrested by Lansford police for an incident along East Bertsch Street.He was assessed $450. Due to a health issue, no community service was imposed.Jennifer Caso, 31, of Hazleton, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. She was arrested on July 7 along Hunter Street in Banks Township by state police at Hazleton. Given a test, the result was 0.23 BAC.She was assessed $550 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, have her license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Amanda L. Jagdeo, 24, of Ozone Park, New York, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on July 11 by state police at Fern Ridge along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. Given a test, the result was 0.22 BAC.She was assessed $550 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, have her license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Diane Marrero, 35, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on April 19 along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, have her license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Nathan L. Strawn, 27, of Scranton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on May 30 along Route 209 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.11 BAC.He was assessed $500 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, have his license suspended for 30 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Audrey Marie Warner, 32, of Tamaqua, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on May 26 along West Patterson Street by Lansford police. Given a test, the result was 0.17 BAC.She was assessed $550 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance for D&A use, have her license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
