Lighting up the holiday nights

The Franklin Township Lions Club is once again hosting the Festival of Lights.

Over 400,000 lights will turn the Phifer Ice Dam Park into a winter wonderland where you can stroll down candy cane lanes and enjoy displays that will put you in the holiday spirit. Bring your camera because you will want to stop by the snowman, Christmas sled and reindeer set to capture that special holiday photo. On your way, you can check out the leaping dolphin, Franklin the friendly lion, a steamboat, a train and a fire-breathing dragon, just to name a few.Of course, the event would not be complete without Santa Claus, and he will be there with a jolly smile for pictures or a visit to check who has been naughty or nice. The Festival of Lights will be held on 14 days (weather permitting): every Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning today. It will also be open on Dec. 22 and 23. The festival opens at 5 p.m. and will stay open until 8:30 p.m. The park is located at 880 Main Road in Lehighton in Franklin Township. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 4 to 12, and free for children under 4.On-site parking is available and a golf cart can be provided for those who need handicapped assistance. The Christmas Cafe will be open with a menu of chili, chicken barbecue, filling and hamburgers. You can top that off with some homemade cookies and a cup of hot chocolate. The Franklin Township Lions Club welcomes everyone to this holiday light show. For more information visit
