Hometown crash injures two

Both drivers were sent to area hospitals in a two-vehicle crash Friday on Hometown Hill.

According to those at the scene, including eyewitnesses to the collision, a Subaru Imprezu driven by an elderly man from the Lake Hauto area tried to enter Route 309 from Holland Street at 2:15 p.m. when the car shot across four lanes of traffic.

In the process, the Subaru collided with a northbound Dodge Grand Caravan and narrowly missed other vehicles before being stopped by impact with the southbound curb.

"It almost seemed as though he hit the gas instead of the brake," one eyewitness said to police. "We had to quickly hit our brakes to avoid it."

Traffic was heavy at the time due to Black Friday shopping.
