Drivers needed in area

Do you know your way around Lehighton?

Can you easily navigate the streets of Jim Thorpe? If so, the Tamaqua Salvation Army needs you.For more than 20 years, the Salvation Army has been providing a free Thanksgiving Day feast. This year's dinner will be served from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army's Broad Street, Tamaqua location.Major Sharon Whispell said that the organization has enough volunteers who are lined up to prepare, serve and clean up after the meal. But drivers to deliver the meals are sorely needed."Right now, we only have about four drivers who have contacted us and we need many more," she said."We are really hoping to hear from volunteers who can help us deliver meals."The areas where meals will be delivered include Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Coaldale, Lansford, Nesquehoning, Tamaqua and surrounding areas. Volunteer drivers should contact the Salvation Army in advance (570-668-0410) and should be available to load meals into vehicles between 8 and 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning."They should start delivering by 10 and be finished by around 2 p.m.," Whispell said."If you can help, please call us by Wednesday afternoon."
