Worker struck on turnpike

A construction worker was struck by a vehicle at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday in a bridge construction zone at the 76.6 mile marker of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The incident happened in the northbound lane, about one mile north of the Mahoning Valley interchange in Franklin Township.The Turnpike Commission spokeswoman Marilyn Doyle said the man was conscious and alert, and was taken by Lehighton Ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. he had non-life-threatening injuries, she said.The man works for Guidemark, a sub-contractor on the project.The Franklin Township Fire Co. was on scene.
