Dark Star Orchestra at Penn's Peak Wednesday night

Dark Star Orchestra, the band which recreates the sounds of the Grateful Dead by playing historic set lists, is returning to Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

The concert will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26. Tickets are $24 in advance and $29 at the door. For over 17 years as of this tour, Dark Star Orchestra has embodied the Grateful Dead's live experience for fans both old and too young to have ever seen their own Grateful Dead show.Recreating the Grateful Dead set lists, and intermittently crafting their own, Dark Star Orchestra offers a continually evolving artistic outlet within the Grateful Dead's musical canon.Matching equipment, stage layout and even members (various eras could included female vocals or multiple drummers), Dark Star Orchestra's determined commitment to 'raising the Dead' has earned them high praise.Numerous guest musicians have sat in with Dark Star Orchestra, including Phish's Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman, Steve Kimock, Peter Rowan, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Keller Williams, Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes and every living member of the original Grateful Dead."Playing with Dark Star Orchestra feels just exactly like it felt when I was playing with the Grateful Dead." - Donna Jean Godchaux, Grateful Dead vocalist, frequent DSO guest"I can close my eyes and go back 30 years and have it be every bit as rewarding and satisfying." - Dan Healy, Grateful Dead sound engineer 1966 -1994, toured as DSO's sound engineer in 2008While recreating set lists song for song, Dark Star Orchestra does not try to match Grateful Dead songs note for note. Anything so formulaic would be of a great disservice to the free spirit of The Dead's live performances.Dark Star Orchestra reached their biggest milestone yet earlier this year: surpassing the Grateful Dead in number of shows played (2,318 - in almost half the time of The Dead's 30 years of playing together).Other upcoming concerts at Penn's Peak are:November• 24 - Dark Star Orchestra, 8 p.m. Tickets $24 and $29.December• 3 - The Lehighton 9/12 Project Presents Dr. Benjamin Carson, Sr., M.D., 7 p.m. $25.• 14 - Rockin' the Holidays with Felix Cavaliere's Rascals, 8 p.m. Tickets $22 and $25.• 20 - Kenny Rogers, 8 p.m. Tickets $55 and $65.• 30 - Get the Led Out, 8 p.m. Tickets $36 reserved, $29 general advance, $34 day of show.• 31 - Get the Led Out, 9 p.m. Tickets $45.January• 3 - Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot - An Evening Celebrating The Music of Billy Joel, 8 p.m. Tickets $17 advance, $22 day of show.• 9 - Phil Vassar with Lyndsey Highlander, 8 p.m. Tickets $22 and $27.• 22 - Extreme 'Pornograffitti Live - 25th Anniversary', 9 p.m. Tickets $25 advance, $30 at door.• 24 - Satisfaction, 8 p.m. Tickets $15 advance, $20 day of show.• 31 - Voyage, Musical Tribute to the band Journey featuring Hugo, 8 p.m. Tickets $19 advance, $24 day of show.February• 13 - An Evening with Dennis DeYoung and The Music of STYX, 8 p.m. Tickets $34 and $39.• 21 - Bruce in the USA, 8 p.m. Tickets $17 advance, $22 day of show.• 27 - Creedence Clearwater Revisited, 8 p.m. Tickets $42 and $47.• 28 - The Pink Floyd Experience, 8 p.m. Tickets $30 and $35.March• 6 - Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-A-Whirl Band, 8 p.m. Tickets $22 advance, $27 day of show.• 13 - Melvin Seals & JGB, 8 p.m. Tickets $17 advance, $22 day of show.• 28 - The Outlaws with Special Guest Blackhawk, 8 p.m., Tickets $28 advance, $33 day of show.May• 29 - The Lettermen, 8 p.m., Tickets $27 and $32.
