Five placed in probation program

Five first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they will face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Ashley Marie Bahr, 25, of Bartonsville, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. She was arrested on April 1, 2013, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Franklin Township. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, have her license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Miguel Figueroa-Vargas, 23, of Lebanon, was placed for six months on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 4, 2012, along the turnpike in Penn Forest Township, by state police at Pocono. A test showed a 0.15 BAC.He was assessed $650 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, have his license suspended for 30 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Keith Robert Straubinger, 55, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 11 along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed a 0.19 BAC.He was assessed $550 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Mark David Felker, 21, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on April 24 along Gold Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed a 0.21 BAC.He was assessed $550 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Daniel Patrick McGoldrick, 20, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on July 1 in the 800 block of Alley L by Palmerton police.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
