Dream Come True telethon nets $78,660

Sunday night marked another milestone for the Blue Ridge Chapter of Dream Come True.

The local non-profit organization raised $78,660 during its annual telethon to help fulfill the dreams of seriously ill children in the area.According to Eileen Thompson, president of the Blue Ridge Chapter, additional donations after the conclusion of the four-hour broadcast could add to the final amount."We had a great night," Thompson said after the cameras stopped rolling at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe. "Thanks to the generosity of our donors we were able to eclipse last year's total of almost $75,000. We have a record amount of dreams that have received board approval and are now in various stages of fulfillment."The night featured entertainment mixed in with check presentations and interviews with dream recipients.Hosts included George Roberts, Dr. Ed Miller, Nick Hawkey and Kristal Nemeroff, who was a past Dream recipient herself."I went to Disney World in 1996 and I still get chills thinking about it," Nemeroff said. "I teared up while performing When You Wish Upon A Star during this year's telethon because of how special that experience was for me. I remember every moment like it was a yesterday."Among the check presentations were significant contributions from Becky's Drive-In, United Dream Ridge organizers and Tony Wolfe.Danny Rhodes, John Bedics and Minerva Latshaw presented a $17,500 check from the 27th Annual Lehigh Township Benefit Festival and Car Show held at Becky's Drive-In Theater.Over $274,000 has been raised through the car show since 1987 for Dream Come True.A $15,833.88 check from Wayne Halliday encompassed funds from the United Dream Ride in Gilbert.Halliday organized the initial ride last year in memory of his daughter Emily, who passed away at two months old.Tony Wolfe raised $14,013.71 through the Hunter Wolfe Memorial Golf Tournament at Woodstone Country Club.Tony's son Hunter was just shy of his 13th birthday when he passed away from leukemia.The 2014 Dream Maker award recipients were Rhodes, Bedics, Thomson's Meat Market, Carbon Mountaineers Marine Corps League Detachment 996, Tony Wolfe, Country Harvest and the American Legion Riders West End Memorial Post 927.Entertainment was provided by Tommy Zito as the house band, Blue Mountain Community Church, Dance With Kim, Shane McGeehan and Livi Morrison, Jupiters Arrow, Erin Kelley and Lynn DeHaven, John Breidinger, Elizabethtown College Vocalign, Jean Andrews and American Dream, Ivory Blue (Frank and Risa Hall), and Bill Haley's Comets.

The 2014 event raised $78,660 to fulfill future dreams.
