Armed robbery in Nesquehoning

Nesquehoning police are investigating the armed robbery of the Dollar General store in the 1100 block of West Catawissa street (Route 209).

The incident occurred 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Nesquehoning police chief Sean Smith reports a lone male entered the store pointing what is believed to be a 9 mm semi automatic handgun at the female clerk. He then demanded she open the store safe which she could not do.

The bandit left the store carrying a bag of cigarettes on foot running into nearby woods. He is described do as being over 6 feet tall wearing, a black hoodie and ski mask and denim trousers. Nesquehoning police are being assisted at the scene by police from Lansford, Weatherly and Jim Thorpe.

The Nesquehoning ambulance was summoned to the scene to evaluate the female clerk. The store is located at the extreme east end of the community at the intersection of Routes 209 and 93 surrounded by woods.
