Last Waltz Celebration at opera house

The 'The Band' Band Last Waltz Celebration live comes to the The Mauch Chunk Opera House at 14 W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe at 8 p.m. Saturday. The original Band's final performance, in San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom, was called The Last Waltz, and set the standard by which all farewell concerts are measured. We celebrate that great night back in 1976.

The Band produced some of the most original and soulful music that set the standard for contemporary music in America with classics like "Up on Cripple Creek," "The Weight," "Ophelia," "It Makes No Difference" and "I Shall Be Released."The Last Waltz Celebration features a three-piece horn section, as well as the full five pieces of the 'The Band' band.As with the original Last Waltz, when Bill Graham catered the show to acknowledge a historic event, the Opera House will serve hors d'oeuvres courtesy of 14 Acre Farm, a Jim Thorpe organic farm and caterer.Tickets are $26 and are available when doors open at 7 p.m. or can be purchased at mauchchunkoperahouse.com or by calling the Opera House box office at 570-325-0249. Tickets are also available at Sound Check Records, 570-325-4009, at 23 Broadway in downtown Jim Thorpe. Parking is available downtown at the Carbon County Municipal Lot behind the train station and is free after 5 p.m.
