Rolling rig crashes in parked vehicle

A tractor-trailer rig, left unattended by the driver, rolled into a parked car causing damages to the vehicle. The crash occurred at 12:05 p.m. on Monday in the village of Nuremburg, North Union Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said the rig driver, not identified by troopers, was northbound on Mahanoy Street when he illegally double-parked the rig on the street in front of a post office. He got out and went walking through the village in search for a house-for-sale. A passenger remained in the rig.For unknown reasons the rig began to roll forward with the front impacting with a parked 2007 Suzuki Forenza pushing it into the curb and crushing the back end. The passenger, identified as Cynthia N. Cross, 52, of Lawrenceville, Ga., was able to then jump into the driver's seat and apply the brakes.The rig, a 2007 International Harvester 9400 tractor with trailer, required the front bumper to be pulled away from the front tire. The Suzuki was towed from the scene.Troopers cited the driver for the crash.
