Colder weather arriving Thursday

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ... and soon it's going to feel like Christmas, too. It's going to get cold, breezy and there's even the possibility of some snow.

Although it's not even Thanksgiving, Lehighton borough has hung its snowflake lights, stores have decorations and Christmas cards for sale, and the Christmas commercials for the Pennsylvania Lottery and Hershey's Kisses are airing. But the weather has been pretty mild, even by November standards. That's going to change in a hurry.Every forecasting agency Accuweather, the National Weather Service, TV meteorologists say it's going to get much colder starting tonight. While temperatures the next day or two will be in the upper 40s, by Friday the highs will be only in the 30s while the lows overnight could be in the low 20s.The cold weather is expected to linger, with highs later next week only likely in the 20s.Snow could arrive Sunday into Monday. It's not expected to be much, but admittedly it is too early for a definite prediction. On Tuesday night, a coastal low could move up the coast and we could get more precipitation.Accuweather's 45-day forecast brings good news to skiers, but bad news to those who don't like cold weather.Accuweather spokesman Justin Roberti says, "Just 45 days before Christmas, forecasts for the top 10 U.S. metropolitan areas (by population), including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Miami, Atlanta and Boston are all calling for lower than average temperatures, particularly in Washington, D.C., Dallas, Houston and Atlanta."Arctic air starts to arrive in the region Thursday night. Temps will tumble Thursday night and flurries or snow showers are in the forecast.Friday will be windy and cold with temperatures only in the mid 30s.On Sunday night and Monday, a storm could clip us with a wintry mix or snow.Next Thursday we could have a possible winter-type storm. So if you thought it was too early to hang your outdoor Christmas decorations, you might have missed a good opportunity.
