Mahoning Township police announce recent arrests

Mahoning Township police announced multiple recent arrests on Tuesday.

Police were dispatched to the McDonalds drive-thru at 12:42 a.m. on Oct. 3, for a male asleep behind the wheel.On arrival, officers found a male, Daniel Shelley of Port Royal, slouched over the wheel at the first drive-thru window.Officers observed an open container of alcohol and had difficulty waking him.Shelley refused a blood test and has been charged with DUI, and violating restrictions on alcoholic beverages.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19.Police were dispatched to Walmart on Sept. 7 at 6:45 p.m. for a reported retail theft.Members of the store's loss prevention team stopped two people exiting the lawn and garden portion of the building with merchandise they did not purchase.The suspects were identified as Edward Hendershot Jr, and Amber Thomas, both of Lehighton.Hendershot had allegedly taken a cart of merchandise valued at $104.94, while Thomas had $50.23 in meat products concealed in her purse.Both face retail theft and criminal conspiracy charges as misdemeanors.Preliminary hearings are scheduled for Dec. 17. Police stopped a vehicle for careless driving on Sept. 14 at 3:10 a.m..The vehicle was observed going airborne while crossing the intersection of Blakeslee Boulevard East and Mahoning Mountain Road, and swerving across the roadway.A blood test showed the driver, Justin Carlucci of Lehighton, had a BAC of .20 percent.Carlucci was charged with two counts of driving under the influence (DUI) and careless driving.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17. Police stopped a vehicle at a DUI checkpoint on Route 209 at 1:14 a.m. on Sept. 21.The driver, Dorothy Brice of Bethlehem, had an expired license, and there was an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, police said.A blood test showed she had a BAC of .18 percent.She has been charged with two counts of DUI, drivers required to be licensed, and restriction on alcoholic beverages.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10. Police stopped a vehicle on Route 209 for swerving, and crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic at 11:20 p.m. on Sept. 26.The driver, Justine Osborn of Weatherly, had a suspended license, police said.She is accused of being under the influence of alcohol while her six-year-old child was in the backseat.A blood test showed Osborn had a BAC of .21 percent. She has been charged with two counts of DUI, endangering the welfare of a child, careless driving, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, and failure to drive on the right side of the road.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.Police stopped a vehicle on Route 902 for swerving, and driving 30 mph in a posted 45 mph zone at 7:10 p.m. on Oct. 1.A blood test showed the driver, Larry Trine of Lehighton, had a BAC of .13 percent.He has been charged with two counts of DUI, careless driving, and exceeding minimum speed regulations.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
