Three-car crash in Lehigh Township kills 2

 A Carbon County woman is among two people dead following a three-car crash Sunday afternoon in Lehigh Township.

According to a police report issued by Lehigh Township Police Chief Scott Fogel, at 1:42 p.m., township police were called to the multivehicle crash on Route 145 (Riverview Drive) near Willow Road in the Treichlers area of the township.

A silver Chrysler Cirrus operated by a 17-year-old male from Bath was traveling northbound on Route 145 when it rear-ended a Chevrolet Colorado pickup driven by Ronald Wechsler, 65, of Coplay.

The Cirrus then entered the southbound lane and struck a Pontiac Bonneville operated by Jeffrey Suranofsky, 19, of Lehighton, head-on.Passengers of the Bonneville were Shelby Crowley, 18, of Jim Thorpe; her mother, Jamie Crowley, 36, of Jim Thorpe; and a female infant.

Jamie Crowley was transported to Palmerton Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Shelby Crowley was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in critical condition. The infant was in a child safety seat and sustained minor injuries and was released with her father, Jeffrey Suranofsky, who was uninjured.

The minor driving the Chrysler was transported to St. Luke’s University Hospital-Bethlehem Campus with undisclosed injuries. The passenger of the Chrysler was identified as Jacoby Demarkus Hill, 18, of Maryland Circle Whitehall. Hill was pronounced dead at the crash scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
