Golden AgersThe Oct. 27 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with a prayer and singing of God Bless America.Norma Lee Burke entertained with singing Halloween melodies.The hospitality committee for the Nov. 10 and Dec. 8 meetings are Dee Neifert and Fran Hager.The last day to sign up for the Christmas Party will be Monday.Members celebrating birthdays from September through December will be honored at the Dec. 8 meeting.The next meeting will be Monday beginning at 1 p.m.Bingo is scheduled to be played.Medicare enrollment assistance for seniorsThe Panther Valley Public Library, at 117 E. Abbott St. in Lansford.Al-Anon is a nonprofit worldwide support organization helping families and friends of loved ones suffering from addiction.Summit HillFlag program to endThe Summit Hill Lions Club will temporarily discontinue its traditional American flag program next week. Due to inclement weather and the effect high winds, rain, sleet and snow have on the flags, they will not be flown on a regular basis at Ludlow Park.The program is scheduled to start up again in the spring.Meanwhile, for the week of Nov. 10, the flag will fly in memory and honor of all veterans from the community, including those living and deceased.Lions member Joseph O'Gurek served as coordinator of the program during "good weather" months. He can be reached at 570-645-5171 for more information on future scheduling.Flag-burning ceremonyAmerican Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will conduct a "flag-burning" ceremony at 10 a.m. on Nov. 15 at the Legion property.This is an opportunity for anyone who wants to discard American flags to do so in a manner authorized by law.Anyone desiring to get rid of their old flags can do so by dropping them off at the Post Home on Lehigh Street before next Saturday.CoaldaleVeterans Day ServiceArea veterans will be honored during the annual Veterans Day Service at 9 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 9, at First Congregational Church, Coaldale. The Veterans Community Choir will sing patriotic selections during the service, which will be preceded by a photo slide program of local servicemen and women, both present and past.Sunday School will take place afterward at 10 a.m.Members are reminded that donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted until the Sunday before Thanksgiving in the annual Harvest Home collection and distribution.
