Unopposed Yudichak ready to represent all of Carbon County
Carbon County's only senator in Pennsylvania government, beginning in 2015, will be Sen. John Yudichak.
Running unopposed yesterday, the Democrat, who won the 14th District seat four years ago after the retirement of the late Sen. Raphael Musto, collected over 40,000 complimentary votes in being retained in the Senate for four more years.Yudichak will be new to parts of Carbon County. Currently, he represents only parts of the county, but now Yudichak will represent all of Carbon County. That's because the redistricting done after the 2010 Census realigned the 14th District and put all of Carbon County in it. Previously, some parts of the county were in the 29th Senatorial District, where Sen. David Argall is the incumbent. He was not up for re-election Tuesday but nonetheless will no longer represent Carbon County after this year.In balloting yesterday, Yudichak received 10,657 token votes from Carbon County voters. He also received 31,285 from voters in parts of Luzerne County whose municipalities compose the rest of the new 14th District. Those areas include the cities of Hazleton, Nanticoke, Pittston and Wilkes-Barre, the townships of Bear Creek, Buck, Fairview, Foster, Hanover, Hazle, Jenkins, Newport, Plains, Plymouth and Wilkes-Barre and the boroughs of Ashley, Bear Creek Village, Edwardsville, Exeter, Freeland, Hughestown, Jeddo, Laflin, Larksville, Laurel Run, Luzerne, Plymouth, Sugar Notch, Swoyersville, Warrior Run, West Hazleton, West Pittston, West Wyoming, White Haven, Wyoming and Yatesville.Barletta winsIn other General Election balloting on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta of Hazleton won re-election to another two-year term as the officeholder in the 11th Congressional District. That too was realigned after the census, and includes parts of Carbon County, including the townships of Banks, Kidder, Lausanne, Lehigh, Packer and Penn Forest and the boroughs of Beaver Meadows, East Side and Weatherly. In those districts, Barletta scored a 3,302 to 1,365 win yesterday over Democratic challenged Andrew J. Ostrowski, who he defeated by a 2-1 ratio. The final totals in the race were 121,614 (66.3 percent) for Barletta and 61,818 (33.7 percent) for Ostrowski.Barletta won each of nine counties that compose the district, including all of Columbia, 10,480 to 4,372; parts of Cumberland, 21,711 to 10,215; parts of Dauphin, 28,510 to 19,128; parts of Luzerne, 34,988 to 16,985; all of Montour, 3,455 to 1,558; parts of Northumberland, 9,598 to 4,440; all of Perry, 4,358 to 1,372; and all of Wyoming, 5,222 to 2,383.
