Crashes investigated by the state police

State police at Fern Ridge reported on several crashes investigated by troopers in recent days.

A one-vehicle crash occurred at 6 p.m. Wednesday along Shogun Drive, in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Alan M. Stanley, 19, of Effort, was driving a 1993 Chrysler Concord southbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. He swerved to avoid the animal and struck a tree along the right shoulder of the road.Stanley and passengers James Stanley, 71, of Effort, and Christian Delp, 16, of Kunkletown, were all not injured. The Chrysler had to be towed from the scene.A two-vehicle crash occurred at 3:18 p.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Route 209 and Rodenbach Lane, in Chestnuthill Township.Troopers said Mary O. Heyboer, 61, of Stroudsburg, driving a 2009 Mazda 5, was attempting a turn onto 209 south from Rodenbach Lane as Crystal G. Walck, 35, of Lansford, was driving a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire southbound.Troopers said Heyboer pulled out without proper clearance into the path of Walck and a collision occurred. Heyboer and her passenger, a 5-year-old boy, Walck and her passenger, James H. Christman, 33, of Jim Thorpe, were all not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.Troopers cited Heyboer for stop sign violation.A three-vehicle crash was reported at 1:46 p.m. on Friday on Route 209, east of Lake Mineola Road, in Chestnuthill Township.Troopers said Mary L. DeLong, 55, of Effort, Richard N. Jiosne, 45, of Effort, and Neil P. Gerst, 27, of Stroudsburg, were all southbound.Jiosne and Gerst stopped in a lane of traffic when DeLong's 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt struck the rear of Jiosne's Ford Focus, pushing it into the rear of Gerst's 2000 Volkswagen Jetta.DeLong, Jiosne, Gerst and his passengers, Martina Kiczek, 24, of East Stroudsburg, and Alexia Graves, 21, of Effort, were all not injured. Troopers cited DeLong for following too closely.A crash occurred at 2:52 p.m. Friday along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. Troopers said Michele Duffy, 20, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound when the vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree. Duffy was not injured. She was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.A one-vehicle crash occurred at 9:31 p.m. Friday along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.Troopers said Kerry A. Podlas, 47, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2014 Jeep Compass northbound when he struck a bear that entered the road. Podlas and his passenger Eric J. Podlas, 39, of Albrightsville, were injured and taken to the Lehighton hospital by Lehighton EMS unit. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.Assisting troopers were volunteers from Penn Forest Township Fire Company and fire police.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:29 p.m. on Saturday along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Nicholas A. Brown, 18, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 1999 Nissan Maxima southbound when he traveled into the northbound lane to pass a vehicle.He swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, went onto the northbound shoulder and struck a tree stump.Upon impact the Maxima overturned in a counter-clockwise direction and came to final rest on its roof in a ditch.Brown sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel. The car had to be towed from the scene.Troopers cited Brown for the crash.
